SELECTION PROCESS
You
will begin the selection process with the physical fitness test.
If you pass, you will take the written test on the same day.
The written test is a comprehensive reading, writing and mathematics
test. *

If
you pass both the physical fitness and written exam you will
be give an application. It will be your responsibility to submit
the completed application to the Recruiting Section in Santa
Fe, NM, as soon as possible.
You
will be notified by mail or telephone as to the status of your
application and informed of your next scheduled test date, which
will be the polygraph examination.
The
background investigation phase will be initiated upon successful
completion of the polygraph examination.
After
completion of the background investigation, you will be scheduled
for an oral interview in Santa Fe, NM.
After
the oral interviews are completed, applications will be reviewed
by the Chief of the New Mexico State Police, who will make the
final selection. Applicants who have been selected are given
a conditional offer of employment contingent upon passing the
psychological and medical examinations.
The
last two phases of the selection process are the psychological
evaluation and medical examination.

tests are periodically conducted at State Police offices throughout

OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS
Out of state applicants will be sent an application on request.
Applicants will be required to travel to Santa Fe, NM, on two
occasions to test. To minimize your trips to New Mexico, a test
date will not be set until your application is received, reviewed
and approved by the Recruiting Section.
On your first trip to Santa Fe, NM, you will perform the physical
fitness, written, and polygraph examinations. This will be done
at the Law Enforcement Academy in Santa Fe, NM, within a two-day
time frame.
The second trip to Santa Fe, NM, you will be required to pass
an oral interview, Chief's selection, psychological evaluation,
and a medical examination. This will be scheduled over a one-week
time frame.
You will be required to pay for and make your own travel and
lodging arrangements. There will not be a fee to go through the
selection process.
