SALARY: |
$30,000 starting base salary. |
VACATION: |
15 to 24 days per year based upon lenght of service and 11 paid
holidays. |
SICK LEAVE: |
12 days per year. |
HEALTH INSURANCE: |
Two plans are available. The state pays a majority of the premium
for employee coverage as well as for family coverage. |
RETIREMENT PLAN: |
Each officer has the option to retire after twenty-one (21) years
of credited service, if eligible. |
AGE: Must be 21 years of
age at time
of graduation. EDUCATION:
30 college
credit hours upon application. CITIZENSHIP:
Must
be a U.S. citizen. HEALTH: Must be in excellent
health with
no conditions
which would restrict ability to effectively perform the duties
of a state police
officer. VISION: 20/30, normal depth
perception and satisfactory color vision required. CONDUCT: Must have no felony
convictions,
history
of criminal activity,
improper
conduct, or a poor driving record which may affect suitability for law enforcement work. A valid New Mexico driver's license
required prior to
appointment. RELOCATION:
Must
be willing to accept assignment anywhere in the State of New
Mexico.

Applicants who successfully
complete all phases of the selection process will be assigned
to the Department of Public Safety Training Center in Santa Fe,
New Mexico for 16 weeks. In addition to studying general law
enforcement and investigation techniques, cadets participate
in a daily rigorous physical conditioning program. Upon graduation,
new officers are assigned to duty stations throughout the state.
They must complete a 24-month probationary period which includes
an 8-week training program under the direction of a coach officer.
