SELECTION
PROCESS
Physical
agility and written tests are being conducted at the State Police
offices throughout the state indefinitely. You will begin the
selection process with the physical agility test. If you pass
the physical agility you will take the written test on the same
day. The written test is a comprehensive reading, writing and
mathematics test. There are no law enforcement related questions,
and there is no study guide. If you successfully complete the
physical agility and written tests, you will be given an Information
and application packet from the State Police Officer who tested
you. It will be your responsibility to submit the COMPLETED application
for "Competitive ExamlPersonal History Statement" to
the Recruiting Division In Santa Fe within twenty-one weeks
prior to the beginning of the class. You will be Informed
by mail or telephone of the status of your application and your
next scheduled test date. The next phase will be Initiated upon
a successful completion of this phase.
After
completion of the background Investigation, you will be scheduled
for an oral Interview In Santa Fe. After the oral Interviews
are completed, applications will be reviewed by the Chief of
the New Mexico State Police, who will make the final selection
of applicants. Applicants who have been selected are given a
conditional offer of employment on the condition they pass the
psychological and medical examinations. Applicants will be notified
by telephone of their selection with Information on when and
where to report for further testing. The psychological examination
given Is a series of tests requiring at least four hours on one
day, followed by a one hour Interview with a psychologist scheduled
sometime during the remainder of that week. The medical examination
will take place on the Saturday of the same week, In Albuquerque.
Keep In mind these final three phases are scheduled over a two
(2) week consecutive time frame. Upon receiving final results
of your medical examination from the University of New Mexico
Hospital staff confirming you passed, a certified letter will
be sent to you requesting a response from you confirming your
acceptance for employment.
OUT
OF STATE APPLICANTS
To
minimize your trips to New Mexico a test date will not be set
until your application Is received, reviewed and on file at the
New Mexico State Police Training and Recruiting Division, 4491
Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, New Mexico, 87505. Upon receipt and
review a test date will be set and you will be notified. Three
(3) phases of the selection process which are the physical agility,
written, and truth verification testing will be done at the Law
Enforcement Academy In Santa Fe, within a two day time frame.

your Information you may test at any of the State Police offices
throughout the state. The "Application for Competitive Exam/Personal
History Statement' is not required at that time. Only the physical
agility exam and written examinations will be given at all of
the State Police offices. In order for you to participate any
further in the selection process, you must submit the "Application
for Competitive Exam/Personal History Statement" to the
Recruiting Division In Santa Fe. Only upon receipt, review and
approval of your application, will you be scheduled for the truth
verification testing.
